This project will work to improve the riparian condition of a section of the East Fork of the Scott River through cattle exclusion and will provide a starting point for larger, future projects that will aim to improve the hydrologic condition of the reach and set it on a trajectory of self-recovery.
A wildlife friendly 5-strand riparian exclusion fence was constructed over approximately 2,500 ft to keep cattle out of the East Fork Scott River and adjoining riparian habitat . The fence was completed in February 2023 before cattle were on the pasture. Fence construction (including H-braces and gates) followed Natural Resources Conservation Service specifications and standards. In addition to the riparian exclusion fencing two alternative stock water systems were installed in the pasture. A portion of the cost of the stock water systems was cost-shared by the landowner (The Wildland Conservancy). The fence condition was monitored during the spring and summer of 2023 and repairs were made in one location of broken wires.
