Different from other BDA sites, the project objectives at this site is to treat a deeply incised reach adjacent to a meadow. Aggradation of the stream channel riparian and avian response and groundwater recharge are all project objectives.
The Rattlesnake Creek BDA and Wood Loading had a different objective from the other Scott River BDA projects in that is primarily focused on reversing an extremely incised section of the creek. On this site, we combined two instream techniques, the first was the felling of stream side trees into the channel to help slow the water, reducing the stream power before entering the BDA reach. The goal is to provide velocities that promote aggradation through sediment deposition.
Monitoring activities include surface and groundwater elevations, stream temperature, avian response and riparian vegetation..
