Located upstream from the Sugar Creek Beaver Dam Analog project, this project aimed to increase floodplain connectivity during winter flows to create both slow water habitat and also to decrease the stream power and velocity to the downstream BDAs. In 2020, North Rivers Construction excavated approximately 7,000 cu yards (10,000 tons) of material from the 0.7 acre footprint defined by the top of the bank of the excavated floodplain. The goal of this site was to encourage a robust riparian area that would support not only food for the local beaver population but also serve as a primary food source for invertebrates and other aquatic species.
In the fall of 2023, SRWC and their project partners including the private landowner, replanted the floodplain with additional willow and cottonwood, after the first attempted failed to create the desired results.
This project has numerous project partners including the private landowners, our funders Bureau of Reclamation which is administered by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the Broad Fund, the engineer Cascade Stream Solutions and the contractor, North Rivers Construction.
